If she isn't feeling very well I am going to keep her home tonight. I am sorry about that..especially given that she left early last evening for a school related event.

I received word from Manolis that I am now the head coach for the girls. Ethan will be working with a U-12 boys team in the Club.
We have practice at Strausser from 5-6:30. As far as I know, we will also continue our indoor training sessions on Thursdays as normal.

I know a lot of the girls have basketball, however this will be our only opportunity to practice outdoor during the week.

I only heard back from 7 players which was not enough to make a practice at Alameda worthwhile.

Thursday night practices at Faubion will continue through February. These have been great with a really high turnout. If you haven't made it yet and don't have a conflict you should give it a try, ask your teammates who have gone. Its a good time.

I wanted to let you know that I'm not going able to make the practice tonight. I have a Union Meeting that I need to attend (I am one of the Union Reps). However, I am sure that my absence will not impact the practice as Georgie has/is doing an awesome job with the girls.

However, I did want to remind you that we will begin to practice at Strasser and Madeleine in February. Please make sure to indicate if you will be attending.

With the start of Spring season around the corner, and the weather very unpredictable, to say the least, we have the opportunity for extra indoor practices at the Alameda gym. We have the gym from 6:00 to 8:30 Mondays and Wednesdays . Below are the days:

January 27
February 1,3,8,10,17,22.
March 1,3,8,10,15,17.

Please let me know i f you want to use the gym. The space is great for 4v4 or 5v5 Fustal games.

Hey all,

I have been hearing that we have been having great turnout for these practices and that the Girls are really enjoying it.

Given that Georgie is the only adult and that there are multiple entry points into the gym can we have an adult who can stay for the practice to help out if the need arises. We can set a schedule if you prefer but it seems that this could work out very well by everyone planning on taking a turn. Let me know if it is not working out and if we need to develop a schedule.

That last email had a mind of its own, here is the rest of the story.

If you have not RSVP'd yet please just come. Georgie has agreed to run the practice with just 6 but it will be better with more. Please bring a ball and shoes you can wear in a Gym. Faubion is very close to Concordia and the gym is in the northwest corner you can park in back right by the Gym door on the playground

Georgie has been the goalie coach for NEU and currntly plays for Concordia, and she is trying out for a professional team.

We have a fantastic opportunity to meet one of our new coaches for this spring. Georgie Christensen would like to meet the team and is offereing to run practice at the Faubion gym (Across from Concordia) on Thursdays from 730-830 or 9. She wants to have lots of fun and will focus on ball skills. She was an assistant coach for Kirsten's sister Hillary, and Hillary really liked Georgie, she says she runs a fun practice. We'll start in the library, Kevin has Womens World Cup footage we can watch. I'll pick up pizzas. Other things we will need are desserts, salads, drinks, plates, napkins and plastic ware. Let me know what you plan to bring so we can balance things. $10 per player and $5 per additional person should cover everything. If you have additional ideas feel free to make them happen.

NEU has been talking with new gym in the neighborhood, Crossfit MLK , about developing a youth Speed and Agility class designed for soccer players. The classes will start in late November and are held at the Crossfit gym at NE MLK & Knott.

I am working on getting the team party going. Both Ethan and Mike are available on Thursdays. I am attempting to get the Fernwood Cafeteria for the party. I should know something on Monday. I plan to shoot for a 630 PM start time. I understand there is a Beaumont band concert this Thursday that the 6th graders are encouraged to attend. Last year's party worked well with Pizza, Salad, Dessert and Drinks with everything but pizza being potluck, We charged $10 per player and $5 per additional person which covered the room rental and pizza.

Hello everyone!

Allie has decided to switch clubs after the fall season. She will play through the OPL tournament and will not be back for Futsal or spring soccer.

I will be stepping down as team manager of the Mystics at the completion of the tournament. Depending on how we do the in tourney, it will be mid November. Is anyone interested in taking on this job? There is not much to do in the winter or spring, I will be happy to train anyone who steps up.

We have really enjoyed our stay with NEU and will miss all of our friends.

Hi Mystic Parents,

The NEU Council met this week and the Mystic practice field situation was discussed. I want to give you a re-cap:
We are sorry that a contentious atmosphere arose out of the sharing of the Alberta field with the youth football team. I spoke with the director of the youth football league and a number of NEU people have spoken with the football coaches. I believe the issue of the football players conflicting with your practice is over. All reports indicate the football teams/players/coaches are much more respectful and the Mystic practices are now just about soccer. Special thanks go to Jeff and Ethan for dealing with this difficult situation.

The physical safety of players and atmosphere in which our teams play is of utmost importance. If practicing at Alberta causes the girls to feel unsafe or creates high amounts of anxiety, Manolis and I will make the arrangements to move the team's practice location. We are hopeful that this is unnecessary and that this can be a 'teachable moment' for all involved.
The Mystic will continue to practice at Alberta Park according to the original schedule.

As you know there is a lot of demand for field space in NE Portland with many groups involved. NEU has relationships with other field users that need to be respected. NEU's 12 teams have been scheduled on 3 good quality fields for our fall practices. It's a tight fit that we need to make work, if at all possible. We thank you for your understanding and working through this situation with your daughters.

Please let me or Manolis know if you have continuing concerns with this or any other NEU activities for your child.

West Side Metros are a tough team, I believe they wear red so lets wear our lucky blue uniforms, but bring white just in case. Just a reminder, we are only wearing blue socks this year, no white.

The President emailed me that we all will have 3 games...I do not have particulars yet. It isn't even a Bronze/Silver thing. We are the ONLY division U12 Bronze Girls that have 2 games. The 9 year olds have 4... as do other bronze divisions...so crazy

I have been talking with the the organizers of the Chinook cup since last night when they sent out the revised schedule. They keep telling me the schedule is not complete and could change hourly.

It is unfair that other brackets are playing 4 games and playoff games, they are trying to resolve this.

Please be patient, I will post the new schedule when they tell me it is final and send an email when it is posted. Please do not contact the Chinook cup people.

Junior Designer Camp

Date: August 17^th thru 21st (Monday thru Friday)

Time: 9am to 3pm

Fee: $150 for the week includes all materials (or $35 per day )

NOTE: extended day available for $5 per day…this will not include more projects…but will include ‘creative’ play.

Lunch: Kids should bring their own lunch and/or snacks

Ages: 2^nd thru 6^th grade

This fun camp includes projects for kids to ‘personalize and decorate’ their own room. Some of the projects include; string wrapped mini lights, framed name photo or name transfer on pillowcase, decoupage mirror frame, GIANT initial collage, Jazzy Jewelry or Treasure box, door hanger with wire/beads, original plush animals…and more to come!

The kids will need to bring their own digital camera to use on some ‘field trips’ to gather photos.

Hello ...

As a reminder, we hold practices on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5-7 pm at Fernhill park. At the current time, out of 17 players (Emma was hurt and will be out the rest of the summer), we are only getting 10-12 players to practice. This is not acceptable because the team cannot perform at the level we need to unless we do get everyone at our practices. If you need help getting your daughter to practice, please let Jeff know so we can arrange for ride sharing with another family who is attending.

As an FYI, many of the girls who are coming are also attending soccer and other camps/practices during the day and still finding time and energy to attend. So unless your daughter is hurt, please encourage her to attend, even if that means they come late.

Lastly, we only have 11-12 girls signed up for the next tournament. This is very disappointing and unfair to those who are going as we told everyone about the tournament dates in May so families would have plenty of time to schedule around these dates. If there is anything you can do (let your daughter stay with a teammate for the weekend, change plans, etc), the team would really appreciate it.

Erinn's brother's baseball team just won their ditrict championship game tonight- it's a big deal! This means we have 3 games in Eugene next week. I need help with Erinn so she can contribute to the team! Daniel's 2nd game is in Eugene the 25th at 6 PM. We'll need to leave town at 1 or 2 PM. We'd like to catch Erinn's first game, but then if Erinn can be adopted by a family/friend from the team to probably spend the rest of the day and perhaps overnight in order to play the last game of the tourn. Our lives just got really weird and crazy- Ron and I are scrambling to figure out things. If someone could help that would be great- Erinn babysits, cleans dishes, folds clothes, and etc.... Please make sure that everyone has a phone number and email listed. If you have multiple emails, that is ok, please list them both. Please go through teamsnap one more time and fill in all fields. There is a privacy option also, but so you know, no one has access to this information and your emails, addresses and phone numbers are never shared.

Also when filling in phone numbers, if possible, please list a 'mobile' phone that can receive text messages and check the 'Allow team to send text message' box. I can text message the whole team with one click. This would only be used in emergencies like tonight.

Potential Tournaments: I have posted potential tournaments to the schedule. Please take a look at the dates and mark your availability on the dates you prefer.

Teamsnap: I have signed up for the pay version of Teamsnap, it is a very valuable tool for communication. If you would like to contribute to the Teamsnap Fund, that would be great. After punching the numbers I figure $5 would cover it.

Carpooling: The 'Messages' section is a great place for people to post carpooling needs, please don't hesitate to ask. Allie and I are always available for picking up and dropping off. This is a great way for the girls to bond.

The NEU site says to show up 15 mins early to register. I would suggest registering early, you are guaranteed a Tshirt and you will only need to check in the day of try outs.

So tryouts are this Sunday, the NEU website says to show up 15 minutes early to register, but encourages preregistering. If you preregister, you will receive a NEU Tshirt. Here is the link to the form:

This weekend we have a futsal game Sunday morning @ 11:20 at Portland Futsal. We are the away team playing on the West field.

SUNDAY'S PRACTICE HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO A CONFLICT WITH OUR FIRST SPRING SOCCER GAME.

Spring soccer games start this weekend, our game is Sunday @ 3:30 at Gresham High. We are playing on a turf field, We are playing WUSC Man U and we are the home team. Please arrive 45 minutes early for warmups.

We have a guest player joining our team for the spring session, her name is Janelle Arnold, she practiced with us last Sunday. We are in need of a jersey for her, if you happen to have one and would like to donate it for a few games, please contact me asap.

We have had a bit of a mess-up on the advertising of the try-out times for the U11 & U12 teams. The card and the Goallines ad have them reversed from what we have originally told you and posted on the web site. We are going to stick with the schedule distributed on the mailed cards and the Goallines ad. The correct schedule is now on the web site. We will also email the pre-registered effected age groups prior to tryouts. So sorry for the mistake.

This meeting is for parents interested in learning about the NEU program for the '09-'10 year. There will be a presentation on the NEU mission/philosophy, player expectations, tryout process, the program schedule for the year, typical fees and finish with a Q&A session. While the meeting is designed for potential new families, existing NEU parents are certainly welcome.

During Spring Break we are not going to have team practices instead we will run 'Academy' sessions at Madeline.

We hope to have at least 5 coaches on the field during each 'Spring Break Academy' session. Each session is 90 minutes. We will have 4 stations. Each station covering a different skill. Rotation will occur ~ every 10 minutes. Thus 10 minutes for water, station rotation etc., and the last 40 minutes reserved for a game.

Are we still planning on having our futsal game at 2:05 on Sunday the 8th? If so, I am not sure that we will be able to get there in time from Sunset HS. Dylan's team has had luck asking Paul to re-schedule their futsal games when they have conflicted with spring soccer games. Maybe they would do that for us as well?

We have been trying to get either the futsal or the OPL game rescheduled, but found out yesterday, it couldn't be done.

So as it stands we have a game Sunday at 12:45pm at Sunset High school, please be there by 12:00 for warm ups. We are the away team playing the THUSC Radium.

Next we have a futsal game at 2:05 at Portland Futsal against the Cosmo's. We are the home team playing on the west field.

It looks like we are going to have a large turnout for the Sunset high game. We are going to have to send 5-6 girls to futsal early, would anyone like to volunteer to drive them back?

Hello Parents,

This is Ngum Suh, Speed and Agility coach. I hope the girls (and Tim...lol) have been enjoying the classes so far. I apologize for not getting this information out to you sooner but I did not know that there was no school tomorrow. Due to that fact the Fernwood gym will be closed. We will instead have training across the street at the Grant High School track. Another change will be the time. In order to get the whole session in before dark we will train 5:00pm - 6:30pm , instead of 5:30pm - 7:00pm.

Since class will be outside, please make sure that participants are dressed appropriately. Long sleeve shirt, jacket, pant, gloves, hat, outside running shoes, water bottle etc. anything that you think will help keep their muscles warm.

Again, I appologize for the late notice and hope everyone can make it for training, it'll be a fun one! If there are any questions before class, please feel free to contact me @ 503.758.6267.

I'm writing to let you know our GK schedule for the next three weeks. Most of our teams practice the next three Wednesdays
from 5:00 to 6:30 & 6:30 to 8:00 pm at Strasser. Please inform your goalkeepers that there will be GK training during these Wednesday practice sessions:
February 4th, 11th, and 18th.

For those teams that are not scheduled to practice on those Wednesdays, please inform your goalkeepers that they are welcome
to attend the trainings. Scott, the GK for Concordia, will conduct the training sessions with possibly the help of Georgie, the Women's

We noticed the two conflicts and we are working on rescheduling, as of now Spring soccer games trump all else. We will keep everyone posted on any changes.

The Wednesday night practice was a one time gig, we are looking into adding an extra practice to the schedule. We will post a poll before we commit to a time and a place. As of now our spring practice schedule is posted on Teamsnap (Sundays).

We are thinking of adding an additional practice to the spring schedule. How does Wednesday night from 8-9pm work (at Strasser)? The older girls also practice Wednesday night and would be up for occasional scrimmages.

I am not against adding a practice but 9 PM is pretty late for Mia. Also, my boys have practice at Strasser on Wednesday evenings already - Dylan starts at 5 and Jacob at 6:30. I am not sure that it would be a good idea for our family to have practices on a school night from 5 - 9 PM. Sorry, but this will be a difficult one for the Palmer Family to support.

Strasser is the turf field at Delta Park. We are in agreement with the crowd that thinks 8 pm is late for a school night. Rachel also has basketball practice Wednesday nights that ends at 8 pm so we'd be pushing it to get there. If it's only for an occassional practice or scrimmage we'd try our best to make it - i.e. scrimmage against the U12 girls?

This is open to NEU Mystic and Azzuri players only. Class is led by Ngum 'Gum' Suh. Gum is a new NEU coach. Gum is a licensed Physical Trainer, former Collegiate Player (Mississippi State), former Cameroon National Soccer Team player and Grant H.S. alumni.

I can't find an online version of the rules, but they are pretty simple. Here is abbreviated rules for youth teams:

6 players + GK for U11
Subs on the fly, one on, one off
2x22 minute halves
Shinguards and socks over the shinguards mandatory
Indoor, turf, or tennis shoes only, no molded soccer clears, football or baseball shoes allowed.
Only 2 coaches allowed in the box, no spectators
No candy, gum or drinks in the player bench areas or on the field
All players, spectators and kids stand behind the yellow tape behind the near goal

Unfortunately Maddy will not be playing this Sunday. She sprained her ankle just before Christmas while sledding. She is in a splint for now, until they can rule out a fracture. They did another x-ray today and we're trying to connect with a Dr. tomorrow (they're hard to reach during the holidays). We'll let you know the outcome. For now, I wouldn't count on Maddy playing indoor for awhile. We'll be thinking about you though:)

Just an update for you'all. As of last week Maddy has a full cast from her toes to her knee due to a break in her growth plate. We're told it can come off in 3 weeks and be replaced with a walking "boot" (not sure how long that will last). So, I guess no winter soccer:( But from all that I hear from others who actually have some experience in these matters, Maddy should be up and running well before Spring! Here's hoping for the best:)

NEU Mystic families,

Please let me know if your player is interested in playing Portland Futsal for Winter II session starting Saturday, January 24. Games will be on Saturdays, with the possibility of having one or two Sunday games but not likely. Game times vary starting as early as 7:30 a.m. and as late as 6 pm. Session will end by the end of February, if an occasional Sunday game is scheduled, but no later than March 14.

We are on the wait list for one team to enter U11G. Depending on interest, and Portland Futsal league availability, we may be able to enter two teams. We will not have more than 10 people on any one team so please respond quickly so we can determine how many teams we need to enter. Fees will be based on total number of players per team. Fee covers entry, referee fee, and court rental for a 2 hour practice session or two (1 hour practice sessions).

Fees will be as follows:

8 players - $90
9 players - $80
10 players - $72

Respond to this email with your Yes or No reply and we’ll let you know how our Futsal team formation plans are going.

Hi all,
Thank you so much for the REI Card. I am looking forward to my trip there for some new outdoor gear.

It was really fun watching your girls develop. I can remember back to those first days when their attention was much less focused and their skill level was far different. Now when I watch them play I see a much higher skill level and they are playing like a team. I also noticed in the later practices that they were all much more focused and could pay attention better.

It has truly been a pleasure working with all the girls on the team, each one brought something different for me. Some brought sheer talent, others a can do attitude, some a dedication to improving their skills, some an ability and willingness to improve their skills, and an interest in listening and learning. I hope your girls had as much fun on this team as I had getting to know them and coaching them. They are all great, thank you for sharing your girls with me for this season it has been very rewarding.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone again in the spring and for those of you who are playing Indoor I'll see you at some of the games.

I have received messages from most everyone & there seems to be a strong interest, but many are worried about the commitment and cost.

1) The games are during the week (5-7 pm) but I don't know what days. We won't have specifics to days and times until we register.
2) The costs --- though we have some money - from the club -- to help cover some of the costs, there is not enough to cover 2 teams for both a Indoor and Futsol session during the Winter season. So, until we determine how many teams & participants, we won't know the actual costs Mike Archer sent out an email that covers the potential costs (if we received no money) so it will let you know that would be the most you would need to pay. But we know it will be less then what he indicated.

Now, if you/your daughter wants to play another sport during Winter -- that is great. We encourage it. .... but if you want to participate we will make room for all players.

So, I need everyone to sign on to this post if you are committing to playing/participating with the knowledge that there will be a cost of some amount (yet to be determined) and that we will be playing once per week during the week (M-W, 5-7 typically).

What a great game today! I am so impressed by how our girls have grown, are having fun together and are playing such wonderful soccer! Yay!

Tomorrow is our last game for the fall season. Ethan was hoping that people would be interested in meeting for lunch after the game. He wants for it to be a surprise to the girls, so do your best to keep it quiet.

Several people suggested that we meet at the Cedar Hills McMenamins as it is just 5 short minutes from Sunset High School. I called and they do not take reservations on the weekends but felt that they would most likely be able to accommodate our large party at that time of day (1:30-ish). So, here are directions from Sunset HS to McMenamins:

-go SE on NW Cornell Rd. (toward NW Trail Ave) - .3
-turn Right onto NW Murray Rd. - .5
-NW Murray Rd. turns into SW Murray Blvd - .7
-turn Left onto SW Walker Rd. - 1.0
-turn Right onto SW Cedar Hills Blvd - .2
-end at 2927 SW Cedar Hills Blvd., Beaverton, OR, 97005 - 1342, 503-641-0151

There are two great soccer options for watching soccer on Friday -- instead of practicing.

Grant HS Boys is playing Lincoln and UoP women are playing at the UoP campus.
Though I hate missing practices, both of these should be a great opportunity for the girls to see a higher level of play.

If there is enough interest for going to one of these games - we can cancel practice. However, if there is still at least 6 girls who would rather practice, I can still run the practice on Friday.

Please let me know by Thursday.

Winter soccer planning is now under way!! We need to find out which players wish to participate in playing Indoor soccer at the Soccer Plex in Beaverton (across for Jesuit HS) and then Futsol in January.

Once we have the number, we can register the team(s) through NEU.

Hi Mystics -
Make sure to check teamsnap for game time and location. Home games we will always wear blue, away we will wear white. Jeff - can you mark H or A by the games so we can tell as we look at Teamsnap?

Arrive 45 minutes before game time dressed, ready to go.

Regarding team duties: I spoke with Ethan today and he takes care of most of the jobs. The Abbotts will take care of the tent, bench, and a bucket of ice water with towels for hot days and injuries. (Please ask for help with this as needed, like when you will miss a game...Thanks Abbotts!!!). Jeff Day will make sure that Teamsnap has the updated game locations and he will also email in our scores. (Thanks Jeff!!!).

Ethan said that putting up the nets and flags is usually a quick and easy job and he can do it but sometimes he might ask for help so we should all be ready to jump in - in fact, hop in when you see him doing it to learn how it's done.

Please fill out your availability in Teamsnap for games and practices so the coaches can accurately plan!!!

Please be sure to update if you are comes to games on TeamSnap (www.teamsnap.com). I am using this on Fridays to determine the rosters and playing positions for the weekend. If you indicate that you are not going to be there - I will plan for that situation; If you are going to be there - we plan for that event as well.

If something changes last minute (late Friday or during the weekend), please call me or Mike and let one of know that your daughter will or will not be there.

Please be sure to check for updates ... there has been some concerns about the Willamette Park field being too narrow for the u-11 teams that are playing 11v11. Because of this, the league may be trying to have the games played at other locations. This could not only change where we play, but the times that we play. I will make every effort to make sure that I remind the team on Thurs & Fri of where and when we play.

If you/your daughter miss Thurs or Fri practice, please be sure to check the schedule on the main NEU site as well as this site.
